About this position:
The Recreation Facility Technician position at Portland Park & Recreation is responsible for providing ongoing customer and facility support for a recreation facility such as set and tear down of equipment, basic equipment and facility maintenance, and ad hoc janitorial duties. This position also provides a wide range of basic customer assistance and customer service. Work often requires a flexible schedule, including afternoons, evenings, designated holidays and/or weekends.  Lifting up to 50 pounds is common in this work.  This position will also work outdoors in all weather conditions and can be called back to work during emergencies.
As a Recreation Facility Technician, you will:
  • Oversee daily facility requirements, ensuring safety, cleanliness and operability of facilities and surrounding grounds.
  • Inspect grounds and equipment.
  • Identify and remove or minimize hazards.
  • Set up and tear down recreation equipment, supplies and furniture for recreation programs and facility rentals.
  • Provide courteous customer service to diverse citizens and facility members.
  • Have a basic knowledge of recreational programming.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and facility equipment required for operations and maintenance.
  • Operate and maintain various tools and equipment used in and around the facility (hand tools, small power equipment, pressure washing, snow removal)
  • May provides traffic safety control, including placing traffic control barricades, and directing traffic for special events.

To Qualify

 

Applicants must provide details in their supplemental question responses and résumé showing how their education, training, work experience, and/or lived experience, meets each of the following minimum qualifications:  
  1. Knowledge of proper janitorial, facility maintenance standards, equipment and facility support.
  2. Ability to use tools and equipment of the trade (hand and small power tool, cleaning equipment, etc.) safely and effectively.
  3. Experience establishing and maintaining working relationships with diverse internal and external audiences, such as staff, staff of other departments, and program participants.
  4. Ability to problem solve and make independent decisions.

Applicants must also possess:

  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 per City/State mandate or have an approved exception by date of hire.
  • A valid state driver’s license and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Ability to obtain a Work Zone Traffic Control Certification.
